Stop hunting for assets: how CACHE indexes your drives

Mar 2026 · 4 min read

Most motion projects do not slow down in After Effects — they slow down in the file browser. You know the light leak exists somewhere on the D: drive, but finding it costs three minutes and all of your momentum.

CACHE indexes the folders you point it at, keeps thumbnails warm, and lets you filter by type, tag or favourite. Hovering a clip scrubs it inline, so you judge a transition before it ever touches your timeline.

Two habits make the biggest difference: tag on import, not later, and keep one folder per delivery format. After that, the panel does the remembering for you.
